Women Who are on Steroids

Women on steroids seems to be ever increasing in the world of body building today. The strange thing is that for men they already have testosterone, but for women they are ingesting a compound into their body that is not physically there. Anabolic steroids made from a form of testosterone which is commonly known as a male sex hormone.  When women take steroids a variety of horrible side effects in their bodies.

It has been noted that with women on steroids there are two varieties of side effects. The first one is good side effects which is also known as the therapeutic effects and the second type which is known as the bad side effect.

The first side effect are that women are able to develop more muscle mass and are able to greatly increase their strength. With muscles becoming more toned and defined women start to notice they have increased self esteem and more of an effective training regime because anabolic steroids reduce recovery times for muscles. With the bad side effects it can be more damaging to a women's body than a man’s body. The most noticeable side effects of steroids  are the physical side effects; these include  becoming leaner and muscular. The women will start to loose her curves and experience shrinkage of the breast tissue.

Women on steroids may also begin to develop male like features such as deepening of the voice, male pattern baldness and their skin may become more coarse. These side effects are irreversible even with the discontinuation of the drug as early as the first signs of these effects.

There are also changes in behavior with women on steroids. These include aggression and anger, mood swings, addiction as well as depression. It is not known by researchers if this is due to the steroids or if it is because of the major hormonal changes the steroid use.

There are also physiological changes in women with steroid use such as changes in the reproductive system. It is known that if steroids are abused it can potentially lead to the inability to reproduce. Not only this but it can also cause cervical cancer and endometrial cancer leading to infertility. Additional physiological changes include liver damage, cholesterol levels increasing, a weak immune system as well as damage to heart leading to the possibility of a heart attack.

Though women like to take steroids because it does drastically increase their muscle strength, the side effects that are damaging should not be discounted. Testosterone is not supposed to be part of a women’s chemical structure so adding this strong characteristic can be very damaging to a women’s overall health.
