Steroid Hair Loss

Steroids hair loss is a debatable argument. Some people disagree whether steroids directly affect hair loss or if it is a genetic predisposition that affects hair loss. It may be both. Hair loss is a common side effect of steroid use and has been well cited in medical literature.

So how does the hair fall out? Steroid use that is consistent increases natural testosterone in the body; however, male baldness and alopecia is linked directly to hormonal levels. This and a genetic predisposition for hair loss lead to baldness.

The hormone that is most likely linked to hair loss is dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone binds to the hair follicles on the scalp and over time this weakens and breaks down the hair strands over a period of time.  Increased steroid use consistently increases testosterone levels and the DHT becomes greatly increased leading to hair loss.

What steroids affect hair loss?

Anadrol/50 is one of the worst steroids for hair. Primobolan is more of an anabolic than androgenic so it will not affect your hair too much. Androstenedione is another steroid that is one of the worst on the markets. This has a low testosterone conversion rate and in essence it converts to estrogen and DHT prior to its target hormone. As you know now, DHT is directly linked to hair loss so this steroid is no good.

Other steroids that affect the hairline include winstrol and anadrol as they are derivatives of DHT, this means that they do not convert via an enzyme to DHT instead they bind directly to the scalp.

The best way to avoid permanent hair loss is to discontinue steroid use! And if you don’t care about your hair becoming thin and non-existent at least worry about your health and how steroids may be damaging it.
