Perandren is the commercial name for testosterone phenyl acetate. It is an injectable steroid which is a form of the primary male androgen testosterone. The biological availability of this compound is far greater than that of testosterone.
Originally released by the same company that brought us Dianabol, Ciba, Perandren was sold as a prescription drug and released in 1967. It was intended, at the time of release, to provide a longer window of therapeutic effect following each injection. The label even describes that one injection a month is adequate for most medical patients.
This steroid, albeit inject able, was not a steroid dissolved in oil. The long half life of this steroid comes as a result of containing microcrystalline aqueous suspension. The crystals would form a repository in the muscle following injection and dissolve slowly over time. These injections can be painful and cause irritation to the skin.
By the 1970’s, Ciba had withdrew this product from the market. This was due to the emergence of other testosterone esters, which provided the similar periods of therapeutic benefit, without the painful injections. This saw the demise of testosterone phenyl acetate, and even now, it will be rare to find this on the black market.
