More Bulgarian Doping Bans

The Russian trick of switching urine samples to avoid testing positive during urine tests may only be the tip of the iceberg, as more athletes are being found guilty of manipulating doping samples.

After a turbulent year for the Bulgarian athletes, the cherry has been put on the cake by the announcement that more Bulgarian athletes have been banned as a result of doping.

A sprinter from Blugaria, Tezdzhan Naimova has been handed a 2 year ban by the Bulgarian Athletic Federation following a test that was out of competition in Sofia on 28th June. Naimova was ruled to have tampered with her urine sample and the case was deemed “irrefutable” by Dobri Karamarinov, the president of the Bulgarian athletics federation.

This ban will see Naimova miss the European Indoor Championships in March and the World Championships that will take place in Berlin next August.

The two other Bulgarian athletes to disgrace the name of sports were Netova and Stoynova. They were handed two year bans each as a result of testing positive for the use of metanolon which is an anabolic steroid

The Bulgarians are not a stranger to steroids or doping infringements and this year we have seen a whole host of Bulgarians fall victim to doping tests. No less than six separate incidences of doping has plagued the Bulgarian Anti-Doping in recent years.
