Liver Stress Through Steroid Use

Although liver damage is not as big as a concern in steroid users as other steroids side effects like gynecomastia and hair loss, the potential health problems that can arise in the liver can be disastrous.

In general, steroids do not increase the stress on the liver, especially inject able steroids as their chemical structure is not harmful to the liver its self. Problems tend to arise in users of oral steroids like Dianabol and Anadrol 50.

These steroids fall into the category of c17 alpha alkylated compounds. These organizations include chemical modifications that allow them to be administered orally and survive the first pass through the liver. This increases the stress on the organ and can lead to severe liver damage which can be life threatening.

Liver cancer has been noted in some instances, as with a condition in which the liver develops blood-filled cysts called peliosis hepatitis.

These conditions and effects on the liver are only really a concern with using potent steroid compounds in large doses, doses typically higher than an athlete would require to increase muscle mass. Anadrol 50 is considered to be the main culprit due to the stress caused on the liver being around 10 times worse than dianabol.

Careful attention needs to be paid to the liver whilst administering a steroid course. Frequent checks with a physician would be sensible to monitor enzyme values to determine potential problem.
