Frank Zane was born in Pennsylvania and is highly educated with a science degree, arts degree and masters in experimental psychology. Zane stood out in Mr. Olympia because he had a thin waistline giving his body a V look. He is well known by many aspiring bodybuilders and athletes for his classic physique, symmetrical and proportionate body without excessive muscle.
With regards to his competition side he is very well known because he was among the very few, only three bodybuilders, who beat Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was also one of the only Mr. Olympia’s who was under 200 pounds weighing at 180 pounds and standing at 5’7. He won the Arnold Schwarzenegger lifetime achievement award in 2003 for his dedication as well as his contribution to this sport. Frank Zane is a three-time Mr. Olympia from 1977 to 1979. He has received many awards throughout his bodybuilding career and is a prodigy to many bodybuilders today.
It is safe to say that Frank Zane did not look like what bodybuilders look like today. He was 180 pounds yet had a trim, muscular frame without looking overly bulky. Today, for example Ronnie Coleman weighs 330 pounds off-season and 297 during contest season. That is a major shift from what Frank Zane weighed and what Ronnie Coleman weighs. Steroids became popular in the 70s and though they are illegal bodybuilders still frequently use today them. They are popular as they aid in muscle enhancement and muscle toning.
It is generally regarded that Frank Zane’s figure was natural without the help of steroids. It can be said that his amazing figure was achieved through persistent hard training, restricted diet and a genuine regard to succeed.
