Are Steroids Safe?

Anabolic steroids are synthetically made to produce the same effects as the male sex hormone testosterone does. Many people such as bodybuilders, athletes and regular gym lovers use steroids and they do so because they want to build muscle mass as well as strength in order to train harder and longer. Steroids are prescribed to people who suffer from certain ailments such as anaemia, osteoporosis and from muscle wasting diseases such as AIDS/HIV, they are probably the safest if they are acquired through a prescription. However, there are a lot of steroid users who consume these substances for strength and a better physique.

If steroids are obtained from a proper lab where there are safe and health regulations, the equipment used is sterile and they are not counterfeit it is definitely safer than purchasing a fake steroid from an underground lab where there are no rules and regulations. There are many side effects associated with steroid use, but for athletes as well as celebrities who have claimed to use steroids (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Marion Jones to name a few), nothing serious seems to have happened to them in terms of their health not so much their status or popularity. In this sense it may be ok to say that if steroids are used properly and the person using them understand exactly what doses to take, when to stop taking them to rest the body and trains the proper way they may be called safe.

Steroids are illegal to sell and purchase in the UK, they are however, legal to possess if they are not counterfeit and are used for personal medicinal use. This law does make it difficult for people who want to purchase steroids as they will be impossible to find on UK sites and will most likely have to be brought from an underground lab or purchased in a country where they are legal.

With regards to the risks and the benefits it is completely up to the user to decide for their self if they want to take steroids. The risks include: acne, liver damage, higher cholesterol and cardiovascular disease, gynecomastia, male-pattern baldness, testicle atrophy, clitoral enlargement, facial hair growth, water retention, tendon changes, roid rage, depression, aggression, possible suicide, and anabolic addiction.
