There is some good news to American citizens based on a report released by the Substance and Mental Health Administration Board. News that cocaine use dropped 23 percent and meth use dropped a massive 33 percent in adults aged 18 - 25. For adolescents aged 12 -17, overall drug use dropped by 2 percent. All in all, a very promising read.
On the flip side, it seems as if abuse of prescription drugs is on the increase. A rise of 12 percent highlights the fact that users are moving away from buying drugs on the street, to getting their hit from the local pharmacy or chemist.
The most commonly abused prescription drug turned out to be painkillers. This is believed to be because of the ease these drugs can be obtained.
According to the report, abuse of other drugs such as anti depressants, narcotics and anabolic steroids such as Anadrol are on the rise also. Without the need to go out and buy steroids, prescriptions make it easier and more accessible.
It is thought that the fact that abusers rarely know much about the types of drugs they are consuming, dangers of overdose, side effects and allergic reaction are a of major concern.
