Injecting Steroids

Injecting steroids is one form of steroid administration. Steroids come in different forms and the method of administration varies depending on the steroid.  Injecting steroids is somewhat controversial as it does require a high threshold for pain, which not every person is endowed with.  However, in the other sense injectable steroids are popular in the bodybuilding world as they come with esters that make them highly effective for a longer period of time as opposed to oral steroids. Additionally, injectable steroids do not have 17-alpha alkylation that most oral steroids have therefore they are not as harmful to the liver.  It has been found that injectable steroids are safer than oral steroids. The drug is injected into the muscle which is known as intramuscular rather than into the vein which is known as intravenous.

Before you inject any steroid into your body you must learn the right way of injecting a needle into your skin and where the best place is to inject. Many people prefer to inject into the thigh or glutes. The thighs are advantageous over the glutes as they are easier to reach and they allow a larger area to be worked with. The glutes are harder to reach but they have less nerve endings so it is less painful. When this method is chosen many people get a friend or professional to aid them.

There are 2 basic types of injectable steroids these are oil based or water based. It has been cited that water based injectable steroids are more dangerous than oil based. If bodybuilders consistently use water based steroids they will more than likely develop abscesses that would have to be removed only by surgery.

Some of the most popular injectable steroids include: Deca-Durabolin, Delastestryl, Durabolin, Sustanon-250.

There are many risks involved in injecting steroids and are not only associated with the steroid but with the technique that is used when injecting.  When injecting there is more risk with breaking the body’s outer skin, which then makes the body vulnerable for pathogens to enter the broken skin. You should always use a clean and new syringe and never under any circumstance should you share needles. Even if it is your best friend you should never ever share a needle. Sharing needles makes one more vulnerable to getting an infection or worse a disease like AIDS or hepatitis. Syringes can be brought from a local drug store and are not expensive.

There is also the issue of particle poisoning and this is when there is a reaction to a particle of fiber like cotton or any other foreign substance that enters the bloodstream along with the drug. This can lead the person to start feeling unwell within 2-4 hours and the person will complain of muscle cramps, cold seats, chills and nausea. This can also be fatal and the person can start have seizures, shock and potentially a coma.

Another associated risk of injecting steroids is if the person injecting hits a major blood vessel. This can be associated with thigh injections. The femoral artery which if the large blood vessel that carried blood to the whole leg region and if this is hit the person could bleed to death within a matter of minuets.

How to inject yourself is important to know before you inject anything into your body.  You should clear and prepare the area where your injection will be. Surfaces should also be clean where you store your supplies for the injection. Wash your hands with an anti-bacterial soap and dry them with a clean towel.

For further guidance on how to safely inject oneself the guide in the link below is very helpful. Although designed for insulin injections many of the principles remain the same.
