Legal Bodybuilding Steroids

Many bodybuilders are looking for legal bodybuilding steroids in order to enhance their physique and performance.  In the UK, anabolic steroids are a class C drug, only to be sold by a pharmacist with a doctor’s prescription. Possession of anabolic steroids with intent to supply is illegal and can lead to lengthy prison sentences.

The laws surrounding steroid possession and use can be quite confusing.  It is not actually illegal to posses or import medicinal anabolic steroids for your own use.  However, it is illegal to supply steroids without a license, or to import non-medicinal steroids with the intention of supplying them to somebody else.  The use of anabolic steroids in sports is widely prohibited and testing positive can end a sporting career.

These laws, along with the strict regulations of many sporting bodies, have led to the introduction of a huge amount of websites selling so called legal bodybuilding steroids, including prohormones and designer steroids.

Prohormones

A prohormone is a precursor to a hormone.  They are widely used by bodybuilders, athletes and other nonmedical users.  The intended benefit of prohormone use is that it may provide similar results as an anabolic steroid (although usually much less dramatic), without the legal risks and implications.  Prohormones are legal to possess, manufacture, sell and ingest, however they can cause similar side effects (although usually minimal) as anabolic steroids.  These side effects may include acne, prostate swelling and hair loss and will differ dependent on the type of prohormone consumed.  The risks of experiencing these side effects can be reduced by applying the correct PCT (post cycle therapy) and using the correct dosage.

Designer Steroids
Designer steroids are steroids that have been created to avoid the existing anabolic steroid laws.  This is achieved my altering or modifying the chemical structure of existing steroids to produce a drug that cannot be recognised as an illegal substance.

The safety of these designer steroids is largely unknown due to the lack of research and studies taken place.  This means that consuming such drugs may involve a certain amount of guesswork with regards to dosage and unexpected side effects may be experienced.

Laws banning the use of designer steroids have not been developed yet, and in recent cases, new drugs have been created in direct response to the recent banning of a similar compound.  The United States have begun banning designer drugs that are substantially similar in chemical structure to Schedule 1 or schedule 2 drugs.  Australia have introduced sweeping bans based on chemical structure, meaning that substances are banned before they are even created.

Although both prohormones and designer steroids are currently legal to posses in the UK, their use still carries many risks, and it is would be well advised to carry out the correct procedures with regards to dosage and PCT.
